Astral People are proud to present the return of the UK house and techno maestro Kowton!
Through numerous critically acclaimed releases, Kowton has established his place as an innovative driving force in the dance music scene that few can reckon with. Integrating elements of techno, house and heavy dub influenced bass into stylistically flawless material, the Bristol native’s darker take on house music has gained him a considerable following worldwide.
Facilitated by the highly influential FACT Magazine, Kowton began to gain recognition in 2012 with his groundbreaking FACT mix and quickly cemented his reputation within the UK hardcore scene. Kowton’s unique talents have led to collaborations with fellow British house producer Julio Bashmore, amongst a string of other musical powerhouses, as well as a highly sought-after guest spot on the UK’s Boiler Room. His 2012 release Des Bisous received an impressive 4 out of 5 from Resident Advisor, with the global music curator hailing Kowton as the future of British techno. Together with industry heavyweights Peverelist and Asusu, Kowton’s achievements can include the formation of Livity Sound, both a highly-acclaimed Bristol-based record label and experimental electronic group priding itself on leading experimentation within the genre.
This year is set to be a big one for Kowton, with the upcoming release of a two-track solo 12” through Livity Sound, the first solo material that he’s released through the label since 2012. The recent digital release of the tracks, ‘On Repeat’ and ‘Holding Patterns’, has been met with great success and only increased the hype for his return to Australia. This tour will mark Kowton’s return to Australia following his string of eclectic performances with UK powerhouse Tessela across our shores last year.
After playing a range of festivals in France, the UK and America later this year, Kowton will be making his way down under to perform at Subsonic Music Festival in December as well as playing a bunch of club sideshows. With performances as unique as his sound, this tour is one not to be missed!
“It’s amazing what 2-step sounds like at this tempo – tense, sweaty, claustrophobic – and that it works so well is just reward for Kowton’s dark, daring approach.” -Resident Advisor
“Bristol based Livity Sound – consisting of Asusu, Kowton and Peverelist – are responsible for some of the most forward-thinking releases to hit clubs in recent years, and their club-focused approach shines through in their djing.” -The Mancunion
On this Fact Mix, one third of Livity Sound, Kowton says, “sums up where I’m at right now musically: music for dancefloors that stands up to repeat listening; rhythmic and repetitive tracks that are heavy but don’t shy away from detail. It’s mostly unreleased and I’ve tried as best possible to piece all these angular sounds together in a way that flows but also gives variation. I think it just about works.”
