A long-time work in progress, it’s a massive wooden DIY project inspired by the famous soundsystems of Jamaica and UK. After making a huge impression at the Reggae Markets late last year, it’s coming to Goodgod to power the Danceteria for one night only, with sounds provided by Foreigndub and the Inner West Reggae Disco Machine crew.
A brief history comes courtesy of Gonzo:
“The whole project started when Stevie Dub (the builder/soundboy) built these wacky all range boxes and brought them to our weekly Sunday Reggae get together in a tiny bar called The Hive. Needless to say they were pretty amazing and way too loud for the tiny bar. So that led us to think, ‘well, it’s obvious we need to make larger speakers’. And we did. We didn’t think about storage or transport or how crazy our peers thought we would look like, we just did it. When i say we, i mean Stevie Dub, Rik Sonic, Mooch and myself (Gunjo).
It’s taken us 2 years so far and we are already planning its expansion. Made from uber thick Baltic birch and housing some serious 4 x 1000 watt VOID drivers, this thing is set to give a little wobble. It’s been strung up only a few times now but our favourite time was with the Foreigndub crew at the reggae markets in November 2013. There is some footage of the FD crew on the system at the markets. Was a tops day and joining forces for this night was an obvious step from that day. can’t wait g!”
Check it out live and in the flesh this Friday night from 10pm! Just $10 on the door, or $5 if you book in advance. Full info here.
