Red Bull Music Academy roars back to Goodgod for a huge night with R&B-influenced production mastermind Kingdom!
The man born Ezra Rubin had a breakout year in 2013, thanks to his seven-track release Vertical XL, on the Fade To Mind label he runs alongside close friends and collaborators Nguzunguzu, Total Freedom and Prince William. The breakout track on that breakout release was Bank Head (featuring Kalela), an atmospheric slice of emotive bass music which not only took out top spot in Dummy Mag’s “The 20 best tracks of 2013” countdown but also charted highly with Pitchfork, Mixmag and FACT.
It was another signpost in a career which began to attract notice in 2006 through a pair of mixtape releases which effortlessly fused grime, hip-hop and R&B. You’ll still hear that R&B influence in his DJ sets today – he’s not afraid to drop his own edits of Beyoncé and Gwen Stefani into more house- and techno-inclined mixes – though it’s his incredibly detailed and meticulously crafted productions that are his calling card to the world. And he’s attracted the interest of some of the best in the business, with A-Trak’s Fool’s Gold and Bok Bok’s Night Slugs two of the labels his releases have called home.
Now, he’s coming to Goodgod for a very special free show with a support lineup of local heavy hitters – Wordlife (live), Cliques, Bad Ezzy and Max Gosford. Entry is strictly via RSVP – get yours here.
