Topping the Hype Machine charts with her stunning single, ‘Can We Work It Out’, Canowindra-raised, Sydney-based songwriter Sophie Payten, better known as the dreamy persona Gordi, has had a mammoth 2015. Rebooting her stunning live set to end the year sparkling, she will bring her unique brand of folktronica to Melbourne’s Shebeen and Sydney’s Goodgod this December. The announcement comes after Gordi was nominated earlier this week for “Unearthed Artist of the Year” in triple j’s prestigious J Awards.
Hailed for breathing new life into the national folk/pop scene with her emotional songwriting and unique production which has drawn comparison to both sgeir and Highasakite, the 22 year old has been featured on both triple j and FBi Radio as well as being coined one of the key breakout acts at New York’s CMJ and Brisbane’s BIGSOUND conference.
Gordi shot to popularity earlier this year with her effervescent singles ‘Can We Work It Out’ and ‘Nothing’s As It Seems’, which together clocked up over 200k Soundcloud plays, as well as ‘Nothing’s As It Seems’ peaking at number 5 on the Spotify charts and number 6 on the iTunes singer/songwriter chart. Both singles will feature on her upcoming debut EP that will be out in early 2016.
Supporting the likes of Little May on their national tour earlier this year, Gordi also won the prestigious APRA Josh Pyke Partnership Award and proves herself a force to be reckoned with.
