The return of the UK's Slow Club to Australia in February 2012 is without doubt set to be one of the musical highlights of the summer.

Rebecca Taylor and Charles Watson have been friends and partners in rock for almost ten year. Their first full-length album Yeah, So was a musical gem with Pitchfork describing how the "Sheffield boy-girl duo nail precious, vulnerable feelings over the course of their sweet (but not twee or saccharine) indie pop debut".

This year, Slow Club released Paradise an album both swooning and raucous – a take on doo-wop with a frazzled, fragile representation of soul inspired rock. Paradise is certainly a product of a band whose members divide their obsessions between Destiny's Child and Noise-pop. And Slow Club live is as much of a delight as is Slow Club on record. SUN ARAW has performed in the US, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand with hundreds of artists, including luminaries like Christian Fennesz and Konono No. 1. Sometimes compared to Animal Collective, Sun Araw's music is trippy, organic and deeply psychedelic, drawing on inspiration from afrobeat, west coast '60s psych, Neil Young and krautrock. But it's more than mere imitation: present is a real contemporary sense of inspiration, which is why Sun Araw's music is heads and shoulders above the pack.

Comprised of sisters Taraka and Nimai Larson and their friend Michael Collins, PRINCE RAMA were raised on a Hare Krishna commune in Florida, educated at an art school in Boston, and now make noise in Brooklyn. The music of Prince Rama sifts through the global landscape of trance-induction, drawing inspiration from Krishna chants, horror soundtracks, revelatory psychedelic explorations, and the codeine drone of slowed and chopped rap. Their latest album Trust Now, which was produced by Scott Colburn (Arcade Fire, Animal Collective), is an epic shrine of swirling synths, pulsing guitars and thunder drums. An ethereal chorus of voices and anthemic melodies create a reverb-washed mine of sonic artifacts drawing from southeast Asian rituals, krautrock legacies, chopped and screwed homages, hallucinatory operas and dance hall psychedelia. Prince Rama's live set, honed by ceaseless touring throughout the last three years, is a terrifying, celebratory and transcendent experience.

Since releasing their dreamy debut EP “Sunsets”, the Sydney duo have experienced significant interest within the realm’s of Sydney’s Indie music scene. Receiving significant airtime on Sydney’s FBi radio station is a credit to the dedication and meticulous nature in which Polographia have gone about their music.

Albatross, the hugely talented “dreamfunk” duo has been capturing the interest of many, with early comparisons already being made to the likes of James Blake. No question the future is bright at Albatross with tracks such as “Casper’s Theme” and “Murder” instantly lightening up ones mood and offering a sense of comfort and freedom.

Also on the bill, the cosmic synth stylings of FOX and the nu-wave soundscapes of Violet Pulp.

For the second time in its short history, the M+N Lunchbox series will head to Sydney for a free lunchtime performance by Expatriate at Goodgod!

The band, who recently returned to Australia following an extended stint in Europe, will play a set of songs from their forthcoming second albumHyper/Hearts, including new single ‘Miracle Mile’. The follow-up to 2007 debut In The Midst Of This, the album was recorded at Monnow Valley Studios in Wales with producer Andy Savours (PNAU, The Killers) and completed at Expatriate’s home studio in Berlin. It’ll be out through Dew Process in the first half of 2012.

In a soon-to-be-published interview with M+N, frontman Ben King said the title was a reference to the band’s experiences over the past few years, which included a 26-date arena tour as main support to Placebo; sold-out headline shows in Switzerland, France, Germany, UK and Greece; and a run of festival dates in the European summer.

“We were living in this hyper state of experience,” he told M+N. “We were a band in Australia who put a record out [In The Midst Of This] that did OK, and then we got picked up by a really great management company in the UK, who gave us the opportunity to go over to Europe. We put the record out and toured and did everything you’d dream of doing. After leaving here [Austrlia] we went through this rush of experience … We had no idea what we were walking into.”

M+N’s Lunchbox series made its Sydney debut with a performance by Gareth Liddiard as part of Sydney Festival in January this year. Other recent performances have included The Howling Bells, Adalita, The Panics, Henry Wagons and The Vasco Era.

Calling all Techno fiends! Subsonic returns for its first party of the new year on Saturday 21 January, a joint venture with techno tuesday and headlined by Italy's Cesare Marchese, aka Cesare vs Disorder, the force behind the Mean and Serialism labels. 

Cesare vs Disorder is a resident DJ at renowned Berlin club Kater Holzig (formerly Bar25), and returns Down Under for the first time since his performance at the inaugural Subsonic Music Festival back in that acid-washed summer of '09. Since that tour, Cesare's club credentials have continued to grow markedly as he has released on labels like Vakant and had his tracks featured on Sven Vath's 'Sound of the Tenth Season' Cocoon mix, Konrad Black's Watergate compilation (under his Queen Atom moniker) and, most recently, Damian Lazarus’ acclaimed 'Get Lost Vol.4' on CrossTown Rebels.

We regret to inform that the DRO CAREY SHOW HAS BEEN CANCELLED due to his ongoing struggle with depression. A media release outlining the conditions of the cancellation can be read here, and a personal apology from Dro here. Our thoughts and support goes out to Dro and all those affected by this unforgiving llness.

In light of these events, Astral People and Goodgod have decided to adress this difficult issue with some agency. We've replaced Saturday night's gig with a Beyond Blue charity event with 100% of all door proceeds and 50% of all bar proceedings going to “Beyond Blue” to help those struggling with depression. 

If there’s anything we have learnt recently it's that depression is something that affects atleast someone in most of our lives. Most people go on fighting it by themselves and think they are alone in their struggle. It’s a condition that can come back to haunt them even when the individual thinks they are in full control of it. We are hoping that the Sydney electronic music scene and others alike will band together to support this very relevant cause in our society today. One of the greatest misconceptions is that depression is something that affects only those of old age however it’s prevalence amongst our youth today is quite substantial. Our aim with this event is to increase awareness of the condition amongst our younger generations and in turn take a small step in helping those with the mental illness get the help and support they deserve.

Snakadaktal was formed in early 2010, when five school friends - Sean, Barna, Joseph, Phoebe and Jarrah - began experimenting and exploring with blends and variations of fun dreamy pop. That same year they recorded a demo of a song called "Air" in a small recording studio at their school and posted it on triple j's Unearthed.

In the tradition of eccentric, loosey goosey celebrations, GOODGOD is set to put the ASS in ChristmASS with two ludicrous MCs from the US of A... New Orleans Queen Diva BIG FREEDIA will be joined by Milwaukee's maniac JUICEBOXXX for a Christmas party like no other. It's aptly called BOOTY, BOOTY, BOOTY (ChristmASS Everywhere).

Big Freedia (pronounced "Free-da") is the undisputed "Queen Diva" of Bounce music. Bounce music rose out of the cultural hot pot of New Orleans street parties and is recognisable by its big booming dance rhythms and it's engaging call-and-response lyrics. Big Freedia is at the forefront of a subgenre of Bounce, reserved for self proclaimed "Sissies". That's a locally used term to describe sexually ambiguous and cross dressing club artists. For the first time ever this Christmas, we'll get to experience first hand the flamboyant energy of an authentic genre-bending rap star. We're expecting our little Danceteria to get very, very loud when Freedia channels that colourful New Orleans energy, performing hits like "Azz Everywhere" and "Gin in my System."

Juiceboxxx is the musical antihero of his quaint Milwaukee home. Toting snot-nosed punk ethos and a whole lot of energy, this young white rapper puts his heart and soul on the line with every performance. But there are absolutely no gimmicks here, Juiceboxxx is as earnest as he is boisterous and he'll transport us to a whole 'nother planet when he takes the stage. His energy has seen him tour with the likes of Public Enemy, Spank Rock, and Diplo and he's collaborated with heavy-hitting producers AC Slater, Dre Skull and XXXChange. Melbourne trio Teeth and Tongue are hitting Goodgod to play with Sydney's dreamiest, Songs.

Teeth & Tongue is the musical project of Jess Cornelius, together with long-time collaborator Marc Regueiro-Mckelvie (guitar) and Damian Sullivan (bass). Armed simply with an old 505 drum machine and an electric guitar, Jess Cornelius weaves her songs through pared-back rhythms and hypnotic guitar lines, creating a diverse and layered sound with dark and mysterious undertones. Recorded with Simon Grounds (Kes Band, Laura Jean, Bird Blobs), their latest album Tambourine is out now via Dot Dash / Remote Control.

Teeth & Tongue - Unfamiliar Skirts (video)

With an all new line-up featuring Max Doyle (guitar/vocals), Ela Stiles (bass/vocals), Cameron Emerson-Elliott (guitar), Ben James (drums) and Jules Ferrari (keys), Songs return for their first Sydney show in like forever. Songs are currently writing their highly-anticipated second album and are headed for the studio in January 2012 to begin recording. Cut Copy's boutique label CUTTERS RECORDS is putting on a party at the end of November to celebrate the release of KNIGHTLIFE's long awaited new 8 track EP titled 'I Want You'. Knightlife came to real life in 2007, when Gamwell was coaxed into sharing his dancefloor follies by the boys from Cut Copy. They released Knightlife I on their Cutters label, and remixes followed for the likes of Midnight Juggernauts, Bag Raiders, Alex Gopher and Cut Copy themselves as well as his second EP, Knightlife II. Shortly after his talent was recognised by TRIPLE J, making him a part of their unearthed series. His reputation with those appreciators of classic house given a contemporary twist grew, and saw him start DJing a mix of French touch, classic house and future disco around Australia and the globe.

As well as contributing to the original sound track, his catch phrase "Say Turn it up" has been sampled by Public Enemy and many a hip hop acts world wide. He was the protege of the legendary DJ Grand Master Flash, and was part of The Fantastic 5, known for releasing the old school classic "Can I Get A Soulclap" (1980).

Grand Wizard Theodore was most recently featured in the DJ Documentary "Scratch" and continues to tour the world showcasing his amazing DJ skill's to this day, as well as being a member of the Mighty Universal Zulu Nation.

HTRK is Jonnine Standish and Nigel Yang, a two-piece live electronic/noise/avant pop/rock act known for their subtlety of gesture and stubbornly languorous performances and capable of seducing audiences through disciplined waves of sonics, crisp 808 beats and soft, calm threats.

Sights and Sounds is the title track from the much anticipated debut album by Sydney four piece Made in Japan. The album is the result of year's worth of toiling, culling and polishing tunes. MIJ get comparisons to post-punk bands of the early 90s like Ride, Stone Roses and Slowdive but the fellas cite modern indie bands like Foals and Bombay Bicycle Club as influences too. We reckon they sound great with plenty in the tank to go far!

The band will be previewing the richly layered and atmospheric material from the forthcoming album on the night. Joining them are Melbourne rippers Money for Rope who will be bringing their hypnotic garage surf stylings. There’s something in Melbourne fourpiece Melbourne foursome Dick Diver (featuring members of UV Race, Boomgates and Total Control) launch their debut album New Start Again on Chapter Music. combination of widescreen Australian sweep, 70s New York punk edge and scratchy 90s indie rock that transcends influences to become truly rare and exciting.

The band started out with guitarists Alastair McKay and Rupert Edwards sharing songwriting in a classic Forster & McLennan style, but have since opened up to contributions from wise-ass bassist Al Montfort (UV Race, Total Control) and laconic drummer Steph Hughes (Boomgates, Children Collide).

Debut EP Arks Up was released in 2009 as a limited edition 7″ vinyl single with an accompanying CD (featuring extra tracks), to community radio adoration and Triple J rotation in Australia. The band scored shows with Steve Malkmus, Jeffrey Lewis and a slot on this year’s Boogie Festival.

Now debut album New Start Again sees the band in more collaborative mode, adding extra instruments to their palette, growing and changing and getting even more amazing. It’s warm and understated, shot through with casual grace – and already an Australian classic!

This one's for lovers of authentic New York House! Fred P, Fred Peterkin, aka Black Jazz Consortium is one of the head figures of the current New York City house music renaissance, along side contemporaries Jus-Ed, DJ Qu and Levon Vincent. Fred P's embodies the word 'deep'. It is the single word that ties the elements of Fred's thoughtful, soul laden, psyschedlic house music driven by a raw machine funk.

As a DJ, Fred crafts an effortless groove spanning sounds from soulful chord driven house through to tougher techno sounds, prefering a longer set to take the dancefloor on a fantastic journey. His podcasts for RA, XLR8 and Modyfier have brought him cult like status, and to dancefloors as hallowed as Japan's legendary Labyrinth festival

His productions as Fred P and Black Jazz Consortium have carved a niche in the deep house community, producing music that is born from classical house roots, full of analog synths, drum machines and Detroit influenced chords and keys. It's at once simple yet crafty, emotive yet funky, strange yet beautiful, but always, always, deep.

We are very excited to have Fred play for a 3+ hour extended set, supported by Ken Cloud and Simon Caldwell.

It may have taken several trips to the Southern Highlands, battling wind storms, power failures and falling trees, but with a swag full of new material Underlights are happy to say it was all worth it.

With the guidance of legendary producer Paul Mckercher ,and in the homely surrounds of the now dearly departed Big Jesus Burger studios in Surry Hills, Underlights are keen to give us a little taste of they're debut EP. The first single "Now That You're in Love" was instantly picked up by Triple J and added to high rotation, and in the coming weeks the guys will soon be the Unearthed feature artist.

Richard Kingsmill gave it a very rare 5/5 stars as did Unearthed director of music Nicole Cheek, which is really saying something!

Underlights are very excited to be hitting the biggest little stage in Sydney to showcase the results of what so far has been a fantastic ride.

Along with her chaotic touring commitments, Emma has returned to the studio in her homeland of Cairns to record her second EP with producer Mark Myers whom she worked with on her debut. This release is expected before the year is out.

Just in time for Summer, Sydney’s finest indie-electro-popettes, Convaire return with their highly anticipated EP, The New You. Equal measures quiet childhood fairy-floss nostalgia and loud, barefooted Summer festival romance, The New You is a sparkling indication of what Convaire do so exceptionally well– the art of creating synth-happy, ‘80s inspired, sticky-sweet pop songs. 

Inspired by the likes of Talking Heads, Friendly Fires and Phoenix, Convaire were first given airtime by local Sydney radio heroes, FBo Radio.

Two singles, over one hundred shows and a few tambourine shakes later, Future Classic saw potential In John Towey’s vocal likening to The Cure’s Robert Smith and the energy of the synth-loving Slattery sisters. Marnie Stern is a rising star in todays music landscape and boy can she shred. But what makes Stern better than any of the other hundreds of guitar wizards is her uncanny ability to somehow transform the most complicated guitar acrobatics into beautiful and concise pop. Hers is an art suitable for everyone from the harshest critic to your Mum and kid sister.

Coming from the Upper East Side of Manhattan, Marnie admits she didn't listen to "good" music (her words) until she was 23. The first thing she heard that made her head spin was Sleater-Kinney, followed a few years later by Hella, Boredoms, Melt Banana, etc. A Don Caballero video introduced her to the fingertapping technique she now uses expertly. For the last several years she has played guitar for "at least" three hours a day because she feels guilty when she doesn't play. And it paid off, Marnie is one of the rare artists who was signed to KRS after sending in a demo tape. Marnie Stern has a REAL personality. Listen to any of her records and you quickly realise Stern lives in between the lines of chaos and harmony.

Melbourne's Teeth and Tongue and Sydney's Cabins cordially invite you to a one night only, a special event, a co-headline at Goodgod Small Club.

Cabins have emerged from the swampy underground to play just a handful of shows - testing out new material on unsuspecting crowds. With a set of mostly recent songs, un named, un recorded mixed in with tracks from their debut mini album 'Bright Victory' this is set to be a good night. If you have yet to see their live show this is certainly one not to be missed, If you have then we'll see you there.

Melbourne outfit Teeth and Tongue return with new single 'Vaseline on the Lens', taken from the sophomore album Tambourine. Together with long-time collaborator Marc Regueiro-Mckelvie (guitar) and Damian Sullivan (bass)
armed simply with an old 505 drum machine and an electric guitar, Jess Cornelius weaves her songs through pared-back rhythms and hypnotic guitar lines, creating a diverse and layered sound with dark and mysterious undertones. Goodgod welcomes them back with open arms after a phenomenal show earlier this year and are proud as punch to host this single launch.

To top it off Sydney's Gooch Palms will be supporting with catchy tunes and a cheap mixing desk. Gooch Palms debut 7" La Cucarachas Stole My Baby off their own label - A-noose Records is available now.

Richard In Your Mind are back already with a new record and new live show and they are Goodgod bound this September!

Following up on their 2010 album My Volcano is certainly a hard task. My Volcano gained Richard In Your Mind an AMP nomination and more importantly loving appreciation from more people than ever before. Yet nothing is beyond Richard In Your Mind and SUN, their 2011 release, may indeed be the band's most cohesive and beautiful album yet.

As a band who naturally and continuously write and record, while on tour last year, Richard In Your Mind began writing SUN because it's what they do best. Richard In Your Mind have produced this stunning album in under one year. In celebration of this new record Richard In Your Mind are hitting the road to tour the record live and are extremely excited to be accompanied by two of Australia's finest groups around today - The Laurels and Fishing.

The Laurels released their debut EP 'Mesozoic' in July to some serious acclaim - The Age awarded it four stars and declared The Laurels to be "one of the most compelling bands around right now." It's not entirely surprising that music with a sly hint of surf would come out of the wilds of Geelong. Nor does it confound that a little motor city mayhem should infuse the sounds emanating from that particular city. Melbourne's little sister, resplendent with sand, sea and home of the Ford factory, has given us a bevy of amazing music over her time and her latest export, The Frowning Clouds continue that sterling tradition.

The first sample from the five-piece's upcoming album, the follow up to last year's Listen Closlier, ‘All Night Long’, is a sound indication of just where The Frowning Clouds are at circa 2011, which is squarely around 1965. ‘All Night Long’ is easy to get lost in. Jangling guitars, a scrumptious riff and a jauntily swinging beat hypnotises and delights. Higher order thinking is circumvented as the song makes a beeline to one's most primal urges. Oscillating one's hips is mandatory whilst Beatle's style head shakes and the odd heart palpitation are neither optional or avoidable. But don't worry, losing control will have never felt so good!

Frowning Crowds - All Night Long

Whilst it sounds like it was recorded in Ray Davies' garage, ‘All Night Long’ and its single-mate 'Dame A Dozen' were committed to glorious four-track cassette in friend Owen Penglis', of the Straight Arrows, lounge room. As a result both tracks are infused with warmth and energy that only lo-fidelity can engender. Keeping with the rough and ready modus operandi that has heretofore typified The Frowning Clouds, ‘All Night Long’ was recorded a mere five minutes after being written in the backyard during a 40 degree scorcher. Saturday 24 September Sydney, Goodgod Small Club With Special Guests King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard.

MONTERO is a new soft-rock/slow-wave supergroop led by Melbourne music compadre, comic book and video artiste Bjenny Montero, and featuring the musical smarts of Guy Blackman (Chapter Music honcho and balladeer), Geoffrey O’Connor (Crayon Fields), Cameron Potts (Ninety Nine, Baseball, Cuba Is Japan), Robert Bravington (Cuba Is Japan) and Gerald Wells (The TM Band).

The two jams on the debut Montero 7″ single are shaping up to be the schmaltz-prog anthems for tomorrow. Mumbai is best described as post economic meltdown relaxation pop; its lilting cadences evoke a flood of associations -- self help rock, Wall Street relaxation tape sounds, stress ball gazing, new age ocean rock, positive thoughts manuals and the Indian Ocean. Rainman is the big daddy of the hitherto-unknown genre of custody battle space rock, or should we call it camp psychedelic divorcecore? Either way, its transportive synths, epic MOR moves and face melting guitar solo will dissolve all inhibitions.

He's the dude behind superfab italo influenced monster label Italians Do It Better (home of Bottin, Glass Candy and Chromatics), he's a bit of an underground disco edit legend, he's got a reputation for being one of the finest DJs you can hope to find anywhere in the world and, with his debut album 'Capricorn Rising' just around the corner, Simonetti is just getting started.

Having been DJing since the mid-90s and being involved in the disco scene even before that, Mike has a wealth of experience that's as broad and massive as his record collection. From hosting (in)famous all night parties in NYC to running one of the most consistently top quality labels around, he knows how to make people deliriously happy whether they're in the club or on the couch.

The big man is coming back to blow our minds all over again. The wait has been tough but come September it'll all be worth it.

Damo Suzuki ~ the man, the legend. Best known as the singer of German group CAN on their LPs 'Soundtracks', 'Tago Mago', 'Ege Bamyasi' and 'Future Days'. This period exerted a considerable influence on artists such as P.I.L, David Bowie, Brian Eno, Sonic Youth, The Jesus and Mary Chain and The Fall, who released the tribute 'I Am Damo Suzuki' in 1985.

Much of Can's output was made through, in Damo's words, "instant compositions", a thread which continues in to his current musical incarnation in the Damo Suzuki Network. Touring the world with an ever-changing cast of friends musicians, whom he calls "sound carriers, Damo has taken the Network on a 'Never Ending Tour', and with members of Can, Broken Social Scene, Acid Mothers Temple, Guru Guru and Augie March among many others. Since his first Australian tour in 2004, Damo has been backed on several occasions by The Holy Soul, including appearances at the Big Day Out.

Radiant and Room40 are very excited to announce that LA VAMPIRES (USA) will be performing in Sydney for one night only on September 8, 2011.

LA VAMPIRES is the shapeshifting soundsystem universe of Amanda Beth Brown (co-runner of Not Not Fun Records and ex-Pocahaunted voodoo-ist). Hers is an evolving vibe, utilizing a web of slowed/screwed tapes, boombox Casio FX, low end theories, and bleached voice patterns to conjure a reverb chambers worth of dance floor mirages.

To date shes released four collaborations, each more different than the last, with underground luminaries Zola Jesus, Ital, Matrix Metals and Psychic Reality. Touring for the first time outside of the US West Coast, she'll be performing live with Britt Brown (co-runner of Not Not Fun, Pocahaunted bandmate and Robedoor member) and Nick Malkin (Queen Victoria).

Second up we have the ever so sexy Jonny Telafone. He will be launching his 7 inch single "ceremony". It’s a total tribute to Joe Meeks "Telstar", accompanied by the gothed out b-side "The end". Jonny is a dark-pop genius.

Third up is ASPS "so long" cassingle. This is the solo project of Andrea Blake from chrome dome.  Asps incorporates minimal instrumentation, washed-out vocals and electronic beats to make hazy downbeat pop.

Originally going under the name Silencer, we bring you none other than the man himself, Teddy Music. Teddy has seen manyof his productions voiced by some of the leading MC's in the game, including P-Money,Lethal Bizzle, Wiley, Skepta, JME and Kozzie. With a weekly radio show on Rinse FM and a consistent release schedule (probably more so then any other producer), Teddy is one of the, if not the most hard working figures within the London sound.

Baby Teeth The first single from Caitlin's debut full length, MILK ANNUAL, is a feast of abstract electro-acoustic stylings and film nostalgia. Caitlin's fascination with the elegancy of language was nourished by a part-time post at a cult video store around the corner from her family home. This culminated in a piece of music based on the murder plot scene in Hitchcock's Dial M For Murder – her reverse soundtrack.

Caitlin has bunkered down after releasing her highly acclaimed debut EP Warriors With Wild Hearts and is now ready to emerge with new single and video clip for BABY TEETH. The single is as much a exploration in found sound and sonic design as it is an exhibition of modern folksong construction. Masterfully pulled together by Liam Judson (Belles Will Ring, Cloud Control, Sister Jane), and packaged up with gorgeous video clip by partner and previous collaborator Ella Bancroft.

Husky are paying us a very special visit to launch their latest single Dark Sea, taken from their highly anticipated forthcoing debut album Forever So...

Forever So is a richly layered collection of folk songs recorded in Melbourne and mixed in Los Angeles at House of Blue Studio with Noah Georgeson (Joanna Newsom, Devendra Banhart and The Strokes). Forever So will be available toward the end of 2011, with a release date to be announced soon. The first single from the album, Dark Sea has gotten lots of airwave love and is doing the rounds on JJJ!

After performing support shows for Noah and the Whale, Devendra Banhart, and Jinja Safari, this intimate show will give us a taste of whats to come from this Melbourne-based four-piece. Supporting Husky will be Sydney's Tigertown and The Rescue Ships.
